Students to attend health career awareness camp LANDGON, N.D. -- Twen- ty-eight high school students will take part in an innovative health career awareness camp Wednesday, December 4th at the Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon. With Langdon Area High School as the lead appli- cant, Langdon has been select- ed as the site of a Rural Collab- orative Opportunities for Occu- pational Learning in Health (R- COOL-Health) Scrubs Camp. Collaborative organizations in this effort include Cavalier County Ambulance, Cavalier County Clinic, Cavalier Coun- ty Job Development Authority, Cavalier County Memorial Hos- pital, Cavalier County Public Health, Langdon Chamber of Commerce, Maple Manor Care Center, and Osnabrock Com- munity Living Center. The R-COOL-Health Scrubs Camps aim to increase aware- ness, interest, and understanding of health careers available in ru- ral North Dakota through cre- ative and interactive activities. The Langdon Scrubs Camp will feature hands-on experi- ences in several health career tracks including Emergency Medical Technicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, X- Ray Technicians, Physical Ther- apists, Dieticians, Public Health, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Social Workers, and Activities Directors. The students will par- take in a simulated emergency with a ride in an ambulance to the Emergency Department at Cavalier County Memorial Hos- pital. They will learn about in- serting airways, telemedicine, adaptive equipment, glucose testing, and using a stethoscope. Presentations from all aspects of health care, including adminis- trative roles, will inform the students of the career options available in healthcare, particu- larly locally. "Research has shown that growing your own is an effective way of meeting rural health care workforce needs," says Lynette Dickson, MS, RD, LRD, program director at the Center for Rural Health. "These camps are great examples of how com- munity organizations can work collaboratively to inspire local youth to pursue a career in health care." The current and projected shortage of health care profes- sionals in North Dakota and across the nation is creating a critical demand for an increased health care workforce. A na- tional shortage of at least 124,000 physicians and 500,000 nurses is projected by 2025. R-COOL-Health Scrubs Camps are taking place in ten different cities across North Dakota. This is the fourth year the camps are being funded by the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Partnering with schools, health care facilities, and economic or job develop- ment authorities is a requirement of the project, in order to in- crease collaboration and aware- ness of the economic impact of health care in North Dakota. 00orth Dakot00 with Your classified ad will appear in all 90 North Dakota daily and weekly newspapers f0r 0nly Ican your newspaper l 0rl,86H85.8889 f0rdetails HELP WAN TE/D APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED UNTIL 4:30 p.m. December 13, 2013 for the vacancy of LAMOURE COUNTY AUDITOR.
