NOVEMBER 27, 2013 THE PRESS PAGE 3 -Walsh County Veterans Service Office Veterans Hardship Assistance Program fl m all of us at Walsh County Spotlight The merchants below are proud to announce: The Park River Ministerium will be hosting a Thanksgiving Day Dinner Community Meal at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Thanksgiving The Purpose of the State Veterans hardship assistance program is to pro- vide monies taken from earned interest of the Veterans Post War Trust fund to give aid and comfort to veterans as defined in North Dakota Cen- tury Code and their spouses, un-remarried widows or widowers. The applicant must have a need for dental work, dentures, optical needs, hearing aids, deposit funds for secure housing, transportation for med- ical reasons or a special medical requirement. The applicant must be ei- ther a veteran or a spouse of a veteran to include widow/widower of a veteran. Another requirement is that the individual that applies for the grant must have been a resident of North Dakota for at least one year prior to ap- plication. There are income guidelines that will also be considered. A single veteran with no dependents will have to make less than $1200/month and 1400/month for a Veteran with one dependent and it increases from there. Some of the numbers are as follows: Dental is $1000.00 per calendar year for dental work or $3000.00 for dentures or partial dentures. Cleanings and routine exams will not be cov- ered unless there is a medical need. Optical is $300.00 and is on a two year interval from date of approval. Hearing is $1500.00 per ear with a four year interval. There are others grants that include Transportation, Deposit for hous- ing and a Special grant which is at the discretion of the commissioner of ND Veterans Affairs. All of these grants are capped at $4000.00 per cap endar year. Treatment using these grant program monies is done at pri- vate treatment facilities or private companies and is not done through the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Meaning veterans can use their pri- vate dentist or optometrist to get these services. This is a great program for veterans that have lower income and are in need of some of these services. If you have any questions feel free to call the Walsh County Veteran Service Office at 701-352-5030 or stop by for a visit at 638 Cooper Avenue Suite 5 Grafton, ND 58237. Thank you for your service.
