This is the first time that America will celebrate Veterans and Military Families for the entire_month and not just on Veterans Day. "Our Veterans and Military Families are an important part of our lives throughout the year, and by focusing for the first time nationally on a whole month of activities nationwide for Veterans and Military Families Month, we can more fully celebrate and recognize their contributions to the nation," said Secretary Shulkin. The signing of the proclamation by the President is the first of many events nationwide. Highlighted events for the Month include: Senior leader visits to VA medical centers and regional offices; Homeless Veteran Initiative events; Surrogate Speeches; Churches/Synagogues recognize Veterans and their families; VA Canteen Specials; and Suicide Prevention Events. PARK RIVER, N.D. -- The American Legion Auxiliary has sponsored a successful blood drive. The blood drive was held in Park River on October 10th. Ac- cording to Weldon Roberts, Donor Recruitment Representative at United Blood Services, "Park Riv- er had a good turnout. There were 39 people who volunteered to do- nate and 30 were able to give. Two people gave blood on the auto- mated 2RBC/Plasma which re- suited in 32 total products. Maxine Wilkes and Audrey Johnson co-coordinated the drive. The American Legion Auxiliary sponsored the drive and assisted with recruiting donors, publicity, providing refreshments, and reg- istering donors. Others who as- sisted with the drive include: Lois Anderson, Dorothy Novak and Karen Bohn. Space to hold the drive was provided at the Ameri- can Legion. The availability of blood is de- pendent on the success of blood drives held in many communities.
