IParks and Rec Report
Todd Kjelland Park River Park District Manager
This time of year is full of change. The leaves fall, water gets shut
off, flowers are dug up and all is prepared for a hibernation of outdoor
summer and fall activities.
As the cooler nights have slowed the grass growth, it is a time to~
concentrate on the next step for the Park River Park District (PRPD)
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those
that have moved into the Park River area in the last 25 years. Others
may remember me as the kid with the yellow dirt bike blazing ditch
trails west of town or warming the skins (drums) at PRHS events.
When you find yourself knee deep in life's challenges, it is time to
think about returning home for a renewed start. That is what
happened. I returned to the "Town with a Heart" and it feels
wonderful.
I graduated from PRHS in 1985 then moved two weeks after
graduation ,to Seattle. I attended one year of professional
entertainment training at Green River Community Collage. Life's
necessities landed me in the hotel industry for the better part of the last
25 years. The desire to stay close to my musical heart, I started my
first company TMK Entertainment, a mobile DJ company in 1989.
Between the two careers and several other jobs I learned customer
service, computer skills, business management and product
marketing.
I hope to take those skills and take PRPD to a new level. It will not
be an easy task, but I am willing to take on the challenge. I begin here with this Parks and Rec Report.
I would like to thank everyone that volunteered their time to help
with the "Walsh County Wildcats" Pop Warner'Football program. I
also wish to thank the parents that supported the program by attending
the games and that brought the team to practices.
The next couple of weeks I will find myself creating communication
avenues, setting up an office and working on finding grants,
fundraisers and assessing our needs for 2011.
I welcome any and all ideas for fundraising, community classes, and
activities.
I look forward to creating with you, the commurAity, and a way to
"Step Up" and support Park River Parks and Recreation.

BOOK CREATOR FROM PAGE 1
publishing process.
He added that there were some changes made in the process
with Tate Publishing and his original artwork did not make it
into the story, but after a lot of back and forth the story was
ready for readers.
"Surprisingly, there were very few changes made to the
book," Cox said. "All in all, we're excited about the way it
turned out."
The book will be available for purchase at Christian
bookstores in Devils Lake and Jamestown, online, and by
contacting Cox.
Cox said that the book comes with opportunities to sell
merchandise such as coloring books and t-shirts with the
characters, but what he is most excited about is the byline that
will be on bookshelves for years to come.
He smiles as he says that this will be something down the
road that his grandkids will look at and say, "Hey, this is
something grandpa did." And that is where the real adventure
lies.
VETERANS' FORLIM CONTINLIED r ~
FROM PAGE 1 ~ I ~f~ ~ , ..... '
Heidi Sanger will touch on the topics of how to recognize
PTSD, the significance of traumatic brain injury, and the
tragedy of suicide in veterans.
Sanger is a licensed certified social worker and works as
the case manager for returning veterans at the VA clinic in
Grand Forks.
Lonnie Wangen, Commissioner of the N.D. Department
of Veterans Affairs, will also be a guest speaker.
Additional veterans service officers will participate in a
panel discussion after the individual presentations. Ron Berg
of Pembina County and Barb Zavala of Grand Forks County
will join Stenvold and Nelson during the question/answer
session.
According to Nelson, this informative session is the first
of series with hopes of having another in January to discuss
more topics with local veterans.
