Zion Lutheran Church News
RURAL HOOPLE, N.D. Zion Youth Group members and
~ friends will collect food door-to-door in Park River for the Walsh
County Emergency Food Pantry from 5 - 7 pm on Wed, Nov. 10.
Thank you for helping us meeting the needs of our communities'
t families! Any canned or boxed food items and personal hygiene
items are needed, especially things children would enjoy.
Zion Lutheran Church will hold a class on World Religions that the
public is invited to attend. The dates are Nov. 10 & 17; Dec. 1 & 8
from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.
The Dec I st class will meet from 7:30-9 pm. Pre-registration is not
required. Exceptional videos will be used along with comments from
Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse.
The first two classes will be on Islam; the 3rd and 4th classes will
be Hinduism & Buddhism and Confucianism and a little bit on
Judaism.
This quotation from Jewish scholar Abraham Joshua Heschel will
frame our discussion: "The problem to be faced is: how to combine
loyalty to one's tradition with reverence for different traditions."
Often as we learn about the similarities and differences in another
religion, we come to understand and value our own religion more
deeply.
Another key question of the classes will be how we interact and
engage with those whose beliefs are different than our own, namely:
Can we present our beliefs with humility? Please consider being part
of the class. Zion Lutheran is located 2 miles north of the Hwy
I
17/Hwy 18 intersection, and 3/4 miles east on, County Road 11.
