Phelps, age 58 of Arvilla, ND and formerly of Park River, ND passed away on Thursday, October i8, 2018 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Robert J. Phelps was bomAugust 12, 1960 in Park River, ND the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Byzewski) Phelps. He grew up and attended school in Park River, graduating in 1978. Following his education he enlist- ed in the Unites States Army and served in Germany from 1978- 19132. Following hi~ dio~.laargc he returned home and was married to Judy Walker. The couple made their home in Minto and Robert worked for Rudnik Farms. He lat- er moved to Grand Forks and started working for Paulson Con- struction and worked there until his death. He is.survived by his siblings: Charles (Linda) Phelps, Watertown, WI; Veronica (Dale) Stark, Wes- laco, TX; Kathy Nomeland, Grand Forks, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his par- ents, infant brother, Joey. sister Shirley Brevik and brother-in-law, James Nomeland. Memorial services were held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation was one hour larior to the hmmment will be at St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery, Drayton, ND. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafion is in charge of the arrange- ments. Mandarin Orange, BEK and Original options NOW at North Star Fried Chicken, Chicken Skewers, Popper Shirley Peterson Owen Shirley Peterson Owen, age 83, passed away on Oc- tober 20, 2018 at Sheyenne Care Cen- ter, Valley City, ND. Shirley was born onMay 31, 1935 in Thief River Falls, MN to Harlan and Irene (Wrolstad) Pe- terson. They lived in Viking, MN where her father served as the Lutheran pastor. They moved to Edmore in 1942. After graduating in 1953, Shirley at- tended Concordia College and got her teaching degree. She taught in Crookston, MN for one year. i~ltill~y o.tid Olliall/Vlcllaml w~lu married in December, 1956. They had two children: Kathy and Owen. They lived in Grand Forks, St. Thomas, Crystal, and Hoople, ND. Shirley worked for Olson Oil, Hoople Lumber, and H & C Lum- ber in Cavalier for many years. Shirley married Julian Olson in January 1983. They lived on a farm near Crystal, ND. Shirley loved working in the garden and taking care of her flowers. She was well known for her homemade dill pick- les. After Julian passed away, Shirley moved to Park River. In February 2001, Shirley and Paul Owen were married and lived on the farm near Valley City. They spent a lot of years traveling the United States with their camper. Shirley moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in March 2014. She was cared for with love by the won- derful staff members there. Shirley had a beautiful voice and shared it with others by singing so- los and hymns in church. The Sheyenne Care Center really looked forward to hearing her at their chapel services. She was also a food. member of Home- makers, M & M Study Club, and many church woman organiza- tions. When it came time for church bazaars and bake sales, Shirley did not bring just one item - she usually had the whole back- seat of her car filled with her delicious Shirley is survived by her hus- band, Paul Owen; daughter- Kathy (Jeff) Lovseth, Devils Lake, ND; son - Owen (Ruth Ann) Melland, Hoople, ND; grandchildren - Jon (Laura) Lovseth, Barry (Amy) Lovseth, Justin Melland (Krystal Moe), and Aaron Melland; step-children: Mary Jo Olson, Kathy (Wylie) Ham- mond, Bonnie (Tim) O'Keefe, Jon (Barb) Owen, Janet (Dan) Buchin, Joel (Kim) Owen, and Jill (Dave) Engelstad; great grandchildren - Wesley, Kara, Erik, Julia, Emily, and Madelyn Lovseth, Blaire Moe, and Oaklee Melland; sister- Marilyn (Bob) Jemberg; 10 step-grandchil- dren; 14 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Irene Pe- terson, a sister Joanne (Don) Wolf, and Julian Olson. Funeral Services were held 11 am Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial was held in Park River Sunday, October 28. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver- Nathan-Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
