Page 2 THE WALSH COUNTY PRESS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2_ t, 2015 Loretta P. McLaughlin, age 95 of Lankin, ND passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park Riv- er. Loretta P. Kra- tochvil was born May 14, 1920 on the farm near Lankin to Emil and Nellie (Bosh) Kratochvil. She at- tended schools in Lankin, gradu- ating from Lankin High School in 1938. While in High School she played on one of the first girls' bas- ketball teams. Following her edu- cation she married Harold McLaughlin on September 26, 1939 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. The couple lived near Lankin for a short time before moving to the McLaughlin Homestead where they raised their four children. Loretta was very in- volved on the fann and was a great truck driver. She had large veg- etable and flower gardens on the farm as well. The couple retired from fanning in 1982 and moved into their new home in Lankin. Harold passed away on Feb. 20, 2004. Loretta continued to live in Lankin until August of 2015 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Al- tar Society, where she held all the offices. She was in charge of the usher list for the church for 50 years. She was a life member of the Lankin American Legion Aux- iliary and held the office of Sec- retary until 1 year ago. She served as Secretary of the Lankin Senior Citizens and was a past member of the Cleveland Homemakers. Loret- ta enjoyed needlework and quilt- P. McLaugtain ing. She made baby blankets for many in the county. The couple enjoyed dancing and play- ing cards. They never missed a dance on Saturday night. Loretta col- lected North Dako- ta license plates and dance posters for all the Lankin Orchestra's. She was an avid MN Twins fan. She is survived by her children: Gary (Janice) McLaughlin, twins: Marlen (Diane) McLaughlin and Marilyn (Francis) Praska and Lee (Judy) McLaughlin all of Lankin, ten grandchildren: Trisha (Rick) Sather, Chad (Karla) McLaughlin, Karla (Wade) Schock, Tracy (Roger) Price, Sharlyn Praska, Darin (Angie) Praska, Jay (Tara) Praska, Nicole (Joe) Zikmund, Jeremy (Molly) McLaughlin, H. Riley (Julie) McLaughlin, 25 great grandchildren and siblings: Geor- gia Matejcek, Devils Lake, ND; Harriet Omlie, Grand Forks, ND; Patricia (Tom) Hills, Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law, Irene (Joe) Es- eplien, Park River, ND. Loretta was preceded in death by her par- ents, husband Harold and infant sister Marion. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Visitation was Monday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Church in Lankin. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Ceme- tery. Suda Geraldine M. Suda, age 84 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, Octo- ber 14, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park Riv- er. Geraldine M. Gerszewski was born Aug. 2, 1931 near Warsaw, ND the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Walski) Gerszewski. She attended ele- mentary school for three years at the St. Anthony Convent in War- saw and finished her education at the Levant School in Levant Township. Geraldine was united in marriage to Luke Suda on June 20, 1956 in Ardoch, ND. The couple made their home on the farm north ofVeseleyville, ND. In 1976 Geraldine started working as a Resident Care Technician at the Developmental Center in Graflon retiring after 20 years. The couple moved to Graflon in 2004 and in February of 2014 they moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Park River. Geraldine was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Veseleyville, ND. She was also a member of the Home- makers Club and POLKA Club. Geraldine loved doing crafts, es- pecially crocheting and knitting. She was very fond of collecting Precious Moments and stuffed animals that she loved to give to her grandchildren: Geraldine had a strong devotion to her faith and prayed the Rosary faithfully. She trav- eled to Winnipeg with her son Kevin to meet Pope John Paul. Geraldine is sur- vived by her hus- band, Luke of Park River, ND; her children: Kevin (Loft) Suda, Man- dan, ND and Paulette Weisz, Mora, MN; four grandchildren: Anthony (Cora) Suda, Allison Suda, Kyle (JoAnn) Tingum and Karli Weisz and five great grand- children. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Geraldine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lynette and siblings: Rayme, Medard, Jerome Ger- szewski and lone Korynta. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Veseleyville, ND. Visi- tation was Sunday from 5-7 with a rosary and prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funer- al Home of Grafton. Interment will be at St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery. Orstad, age 51 of Park River, ND, died peacefully at home with his family by his side after a coura- geous battle with pancreatic cancer. Thomas D. Orstad was born Au- gust 19, 1964 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Donald and Loretta (Klin- icke) Orstad. He attended parochial elementary school and public high schools in Minneapolis, MN. He re- ceived his Associates Degree from the Minneapolis Community Col- lege and his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Augsburg College. Thomas was united in marriage to Jill Shoultz on March 21, 1987 in Minneapolis. He started working in finance but later started to do car- pentry work. This led to a career in contracting and doing remodel- ing. The couple moved to Park Riv- er, ND in 2001. He worked doing carpentry work until January of 2014 when his health forced him to retire. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tiukefing in his garage, but most of all he loved spending time with his girls and grandchil- dren. He has been a proud member of AA for the last 30 years. Thomas is sur- vived by his wife, Jill, of Park River, ND; children: Samantha (Charles) Werner, Upham, ND; Sarah Orstad and fiancr, Casey Dusek, Grafton, ND; Alana Orstad, Park River, ND; his grandchildren: Emma, Noah and Haydn; his mother, Loretta Orstad, Minneapolis, MN; sisters: Jennifer Laurie (Curt Free- man), La Jolla, CA; Holly Neff, Minneapolis, MN; Kelly Rohlf, Minneapolis, MN; brother: Donald "Dino" Orstad, Minneapolis, MN.
