Pae 2 THE WALSH COUNTY PRESS VVEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2014 We wish to thank First Care Health Center for the gift of Park River bucks that we won through the drawing at the Harvest Fest. We would also like to thank them for their ongoing dedication and faithfulness in conducting and maintaining one the most beautiful and competent small hospitals in North Dakota. We have received many complements from people far and wide praising the staff and the care they received from our local First Care Health Center. We are extremely grateful this facility provides such outstanding service and would like to thank each staff, board and volunteer member that continues to go above and beyond in making First Care Health Center a valuable asset to our families and community. You carry out your mission statement well and truly do provide "professional care with a personal touch". In gratitude, Paul & Colleen Samson Papr's Pomts FIGHTrr00FLU GETE003FLU SHO An interesting Election Cycle! The coming election is going to be interesting, not nec- essarily because of the political races but because of the eight statewide measures which will be on the ballot. Some of these measures were put before us by the leg- islature and some by citizen's petitions. All of them, how- ever, are important and some have the potential for significant impact on us and the state. Most of the time we elect our representatives, sena- tors and governor and leave the business of making law, policy and spending money to them except for an occa- sional shout of "Throw the bums outF With the measures which will appear on the ballot we are given the opportu- nity to make law, policy and spend money directly and we will have no one to blame for the result except our- selves. As in the legislative process, we will have people and organizations' trying to sway our opinion on these measures but ultimately the burden is ours alone. There are many places to view and research these measures and we must take seriously the responsibility this bit of direct democracy gives us because we, as vot- ers, will be making the decision and 'throwing the bums out' will not be a viable option.
