Fire emergency declared in county By Allison Olimb of The Press GRAFTON, N.D. -- On Tuesday, Sept. 18 the Walsh County Commissioners officially is- sued a state of fire emergency and burn ban proclamation in Walsh County. The conditional ban states that in order to protect the county and its resources during the recent abnormally dry conditions, burning no longer will be allowed as long as the state in fire index is at a very high orextreme index and/or a red flag warning has been issued for Walsh County. Persons who fail to comply with the ban and are found guilty of burning will be charged with a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fire of up to $1,000 and 30 days in jail. The proclamation is as follows: WHEREAS, Walsh County is experiencing abnormally dry conditions coupled with sig- nificant fuel supplies resulting in an extreme fire potential: and WHEREAS, all available resources remain committed to the protection of life and property: and WHEREAS, the existing conditions make fire a continuing threat to the health, safety, and wellbeing of the citizens of Walsh County: and WHEREAS, the cost of emergency response and inordinate ware on fire-fighting equipment may be far in excess of available County re- sources; Schramm takes the helm at Park River O High School as prmcipal, athletic director By Allison Olimb of The Press PARK RIVER, N.D. -- When David Beck- .man decided to take a year off from his posi- tion as Park River High School's Principal for medical reasons, the hope was that he would return this fall. She at- tended UND and received a degree in accounting. He started out as a welder with a knack for Smokehouse Meats." It took three sentences into the description of the 2012 North Dakota Grocer Associa- tion's Grocer of the Year be- fore Diana Hahn realized that she and Randy were the ones being honored. "It was a complete shock," she said. "It's not an award that just anybody gets." The North Dakota Grocer's Association said that not only were Randy and Diana were the first couple to ever receive 0 the award but also Diana was the first woman to achieve Grocer of the Year.
