; AUGUST 17, 2011 THE PRESS PAGE 5 A MINUTE WITH THE I'VIAYOR BY DAN STENVOLD MAYOR OF PARK RIVER L .5, Hello Park River! It's been a long time since I've updated everyone on what is going on in this great city so it is time once again As mayor, I have appointed several residents of Park River to serve on two very important committees. The Renaissance Zone Committee has just about finished their task of designating a series of blocks in our city that could use a tax incentive for remodeling their home of business. This program is sponsored by the North Dakota Commerce Department. Please check with city hall for all the details and to see if you qualify for this program. If Park River is going to continue to grow and prosper, we need some space to grow. We have people that want to build new homes fight now and we don't have rely place for them to build. The second committee that I've appointed is the Planning and Zoning committee. This committee will brainstorm and bring to the city council and the residents of Park River ANYTHING that will help in our growth for the future. They are the "dreamers" that will keep this community growing. You can check with city hall to see who is on each of these committees. As you all know, our new water tower got shot out of the saddle when all ear mark spending was stopped. We were approved for $1.7 million and we lost it. We still have our engineering finn working on this project and hoPefully one day, the federal government will realize that small cities need their help for infrastructure growth. We cannot do it without their help. We've had several complaints about old vehicles, parts of tractors and farm equipment parked in people's yards. We have ordinances against these types of items. Check with 'city hall to see if you are compliant or you will be receiving a letter from the city with my name on it asking you to clean up your property. There have been rumors going around about a grain handling facility southeast of Park River. As of a week ago, i t looks like it will happen. It will be built east of the old Simplot building. This is so HUGE for Park River and surrounding communities that there just aren't many words to explain it. This is a $25 million project. It will be called Walsh Grain LLC. There will be several owners, ADM-Benson Quinn, will be sponsoring the project with several county elevators as part owners. I don't want to get into the specifics of names and dollars but I want you the residents of Park River to know just how lucky we are to be chosen for the site of this facility. One can only guess what this will do for our utilities and tax base. Never in the history of Park River have we seen a project with such a price tag. Construction is supposed to start this fall, weather permitting.. I want to thank everyone for the fantastic job you did over the 4th of July. The city looked immaculate and the compliments about our 'city were overwhelming. Thank you Park River! Never in the history of Park River have we seen a project with such a price tag., i WALSH COUNTY, ND 310 +/. Tricia said that Jim's donated the root beer and offered the group a discount on the ice cream to help defray costs. The center, Tricia said, has had two major expenses this year -- fixing the roof and installing a new air conditioner. The center sits among businesses on main street, but many don't re- alize the part it plays in the community. Tricia said that they serve meals every Monday through Friday in the center and through delivery services. In one year they serve approximately 9,040 meals. Tricia said that she hopes this unique community service event is something future seniors canco_ntinue on with. " .....
