her trip to the convention. She vol-
unteered to attend in order to bring
back information about what the
national WELCA is doing and find
out what the Bible Study starting
in September will consist of.
Simon Went with eight women
from Grand Forks and Ruth
Clemenson from Hooplc.
There were women from all
acoss the United States to attend
the four-day event. The main
speakers were three female au-
thors, including Leymah Gbowee,
who spoke about the war and viO-
lence going on in her native
Liberia.
"It was an eye-opener on issues
that are happening around the
globe," said Simon.
There was a trade show with
hand-made crafts from places such
as Ethiopia and Liberia.
"It was awesome to see women
from different countries working
together.'" said Simon•
Simon attended worship serv-
ices and workshops where she
learned of the programs that are
available to start within the church.
Although there is already a knitting
program at Our Savior's in Park
River, there are other options such
as journaling and an to help get
younger women involved in this
organization.
Simon plans to attend the next
convention, as it will take place in
Charlotte, N.C.

women's ministry organization of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church
