Park River, the defending champion, committed four costly errors in the game leading to four uneamed runs. Park River downed Williston 24-1 in opening round of the toumament. They then downed the Bismarck Reps 8-5 in the second round, but then fell 8-5 in a battle of undefeated. That knocked Park Riv- er into the loser out round against Grafton. Park River advanced to the title game with a 6-1 win over Grafton. Park River would have had to defeat the Bombers twice as they were the only undefeated team.
