Small Spurs Rodeo Playdays LaSalle Riding Club, LLC has announced the last date for Small Spurs Rodeo Playdays, held on Friday night, August 17. Sign-up starts at 5 p.m. Sign up for 0-6 age groups closes at 6:30 p.m. and these events will begin first. Introduction to Online Business The LSU AgCenter and the LaSalle Parish Library are offering a free clam on "Introduction to Online Business:' Dave Woerner, LSU AgCenter Information Technology Assistant Director, will be conducting the program. Kim Evans, LaSalle Parish Extension Agent, is coordinating the class. "Introduction to Online Business" will be held on July 31 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jeua Branch of the LaSalle Parish Library. This program will present the powerful economic & social media forces shaping e- commerce, the basics of designing great websites & blogs and how social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are driving business online. Food Preservation Materials A wide variety of educational brochures on cor- rect procedures for freezing and canning fruits and vegetables is available from the LaSalle Parish office of the LSU AgCenter. This office is located in Room 1 of the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch) Monday through Friday. National Night Out in Olla National Night Out is an annual event where the community gets "to know their neighbors and part- ners with local law enforcement to prevent crime. Olla will host their event at the YMCA on Saturday, August 4th from 6-8 p.m. The theme is "Ollapalooza, Make a Wave Against Crime". Food, drinks, door prizes and good- ie bags will be given to participants. Lots of fun activ- ities such as emergency personnel speaking on safety along with the pool open for families to enjoy. This event is free and everyone is welcome. Co-Ed Softball Tournament The Georgetown Community is hosting a Co-Ed Softball Tournament on July 27th in memory of Rendi NugenL Entry fee is $150 per team and all proceeds will go to medical and funeral expenses. Your support is greatly appreciated. t National Night Out in Jena Mayor McMillin and Chief Smith would like to invite LaSalle Parish residents to attend National Night Out in Jena at the City Park Amphitheater on Tuesday, August 7th, from 6-8 p.m. National Night Out is an annual event where the community gets to know their neighbors and partners with local law enforcement to prevent crime. This year's event is called "Giving Drugs and Crime a Going Away Party!" Food, drinks, door prizes and goodie bags will be given to participants. Residents can visit with city and parish officials as well as their neighbors. This event is free and every- one is welcome. Horseback Riding Lessons Basic Horseback Riding Lessons will be taught by Millie Deloach and April Paul on Tuesdays at the Unbridled Pen. Rendi Nugent Memorial Fund A memorial fund for Rendi Nugent has been set up at Homeland Federal Savings Bank in Jena. All donations will help with medical, funeral and other expenses. All donations are greatly appreciated. 4-H Calendar Of Events July 30-August 3: 4-H LOST Camp for grades 7 and 8. For details on these activities, contact the LSU AgCenter in LaSalle Parish at 992-2205 or visit our website at VBS at Mt. Sinai Vacation Bible School at Mt. Sinai Baptist church will be held July 28th from 9 a.m. until 12 Noon. Lunch and waterslides will follow. All children ages Pre-K through 6th grades are invited to attend. Hair Cemetery Donations The Hair Cemetery is seeking donations new fence around the cemetery. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Senior Get-A-Way Day Bellevue Baptist Church sent out letters to vari- ous churches in and around Jena announcing a "Senior Get-A-Way Day". Seniors can choose if they want Tuesday lunch or supper, or Thursday lunch or supper, with special diet needs considered. Call the church at 992-5150 to make your reser- vation. For $10 per person, the seniors will get a hot meal, a gospel concert of the old gospel songs and hymns performed by Pastor Richard Arceneaux, a free gift and a copy of the pastor's most recent gospel CD. Summer BBQ Cookouts Bellevue Baptist Church will host a summer bar- becue cookout on the last Friday of each month for the lunch crowd. The cost will be $7.00 per plate, whidt will con- sist of an entree and two sides and deliveries will be made to homes or offices in the Jena area. JJHS Football Players/Parents Summer workouts for Jena Junior High School football players will be held through July 31st every Tuesday and Thursday only! Players may be dropped off at Jena Junior High School at 8 a.m., and pickup is at 11 a.m. sharp. If you are unable to attend any workout dates, contact Coach Taylor. 2012-13 JJHS Football Practice begins Monday, August 6th and will be held 6-8 p.m. daily, except on Fridays. Homecoming at LHS LaSalle High School would like to announce that Homecoming 2012 will be held on Friday, September 21st this year. Please make plans to enjoy the festivities and class reunions! Operation Graduation 2013 The July Operation Graduation 2013 planning meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 31st at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria of Jena Elementary School. Olla Memorial Brick Program The Town of Olla has re-initiated the Menmrial Brick Program for those who would like to perpetu- ally honor a loved one or family member. The memorial bricks will be placed in the Dixie Center Courtyard in front of the Stage area in down- town Olla. All memorial bricks are tax deductible and all proceeds will be used to nmke improvements to the courtyard. NE LaSalle YMCA The YMCA offers many camps, such as swim- ming lessons, soccer, football and cheerleading. The YMCA is looking for bowlers! Come on in and join a league! Immunization Clinic The LaSalle Parish Health Unit will have a spe- cial Immunization ONLY Clinic on July 30 from 8- 11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. No appointment is needed and walk-ins are welcome during these times only. Benefit Co-Ed T-Bali Tourney The Jena Community is hosting a benefit co-ed t- ball tournament on August 10th and llth in memory of Rendi Nugent. Another class that small business owners or individuals nmy be interested in attending is "Social Media" which will be taught August 28th. Both classes will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Centennial Cultural Center in Olla. Wireless internet is available - please bring your laptop if you have one. If not, a limited number of laptops will be available for class instruction. Pre-registration is required. There is no fee for the classes.
