GRAFTON, N.D.- District 19 Representative Gary Paur (R-Gilby) along with candidates Carol Gier- szewski (D-Grafton), and Robert "Tork" Kilichowski (D-Minto) got a firsthand look at the lignite in- dustry during the Lignite Energy Council's biennial Legislative Tour of Coal Country on July 17, 2014. Stops included the surface min- ing and reclamation areas at The North American Coal Corpora- tion's Falkirk Mine near Under- wood; along with the energy con- version and emissions control areas at Great River Energy's Coal Creek Station, which is adjacent to the mine. "In addition to seeing the ex- traordinary reclamation efforts at the Falkirk Mine, the tour participants and environmental control systems at the Coal Creek Station," ex- plained Jason Bohrer, president and chief executive officer of the Lignite Energy Council. He con- tinued by emphasizing how the , state's power plants are more effi- cient while at the same time re- ducing emissions and producing af- fordable and reliable power for more than 2 million customers in the four-state area. Tour participants also learned about the industry's impact on the economy of North Dakota, includ- ing the direct and indirect employ- ment of 17,000 people, the annual generation of $3 billion in business volume, and the annual generation of $100 million in tax revenue. ir 1 TTTT---- ---_..:_- =- '_-A_-T-_:_-- _._-___'_ protect Social Security benefits, save Medicare, repeal Obamacare, eliminate the death tax and re- form the Social Security COLA system.
