I Veterans Upward Bound: It's never too lace for college Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a program available to military veterans who want to prep/'or college before they take that big step. A veteran seeking education can be just recently discharged or is someone who has been out of the classroom for over 40 years. VUB provides opportunities to succeed in pre-college pertbrmance and in higher education pursuits. In addition to pre-college courses, VUB assists in academic advising,career guidance, school admission, financial aid applications, and other education benefits for veterans. Qualifications for Participation in VUB -Qualified Armed Forces veteran -U.S. citizen -First-generation college student -Low income eligible -Demonstrate a need Services Provided to Students -Academic and career guidance -Intensive basic academic skills -Short-term remedial or refresher courses -Assistance in securing support services from locally available resources such as the VA, Vet Center, Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, and Job Service. Core Curriculum -Mathematics through pre-caiculus -Laboratory science Foreign language Composition Literature Mnstruction in subjects that are necessary for success in education beyond high school (such as basic computer skills). VUB is available at no cost tothe veteran as it is funded by the United States Department of Education. The VUB p ogram is set up to adapt to each veterans needs and schedule, so the length of the program varies. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and remain in the program until they are ready to pursue their educational goals.
