THE WALSH COUNTY PRESS WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2018 Page 9 PARK RIVER, N.D. -- On Sat- urday, July 14, Park River hosted the 12U Nodak League Tournament. The Pirates field two teams in the 12U division and they proved why Park River baseball is respected as one of the top programs in the state. Park River 11 's Gold took to the field 1st on Saturday. PR Gold played Minto in their opening round matchup and they played a nail biter. Minto took a 3-0 lead after the top of the 1st. Park River battled back scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning on a 2 out RBI double by Jameson Erovick to score Tanner Schramm. Minto scored again in the 2nd in- ning but PR answered in a big way in the bottom half. Colton Gemmill led off with a walk. Briley Kubat and Kenny Holand followed up with back to back doubles to get the team within 1. Brady Reilly singled home Holand one batter later to tie the game up at 4. The game remained knotted at 4 until the bottom of the 5th. Three straight Pirates walked with 1 out to 10ad the bases. Gabriel Williams came up huge, hitting a walk off sin- gle and advancing PR Gold to the semifinals. Park River 12's Black opened their day by taking on ,Langdon White. Langdon got on the board in the lst.Adouble with 2 outs was fol- lowed by a fielding error that led to their nm. Calvin Otto led offthe in- ning for P1L Otto hit a single and ad- vanced all the way home on 2 errors to knot the score at 1-1. Otto was at it again in the 3rd by drawing a 1 out walk and then stealing 2nd. Tucker Woods drove Otto home to give PR Black aqead they wouldn't relinquish. Everett Fedje knocked in Woods with a 2 out single. That would be the final score of 3-1. Conner Hodek pitched a gem in the complete game victo- ry. He threw 5 innings giving up just 2 hits, no walks and struck out 8 bat- ters. Hodek threw 67 pitches in the victory. Minto took the #2 seed into the tournament and this turned into a defensive smag- gle. Minto scored in the top of the 1 st to take a 1-0 lead. The Pirates answered with their own run in the bottom half of the inning. After that, pitching and defense took over. Jaxson Omdahl pitched a great game and held Minto to that single run until the 5th when Minto finally broke through to take a 2-1 lead. Park River could not push a mn across in their half of the inning and had to settle for 2nd place. The Park River 9's had a great season as they are made up of exclusively of 9 year old players. Fedje plays for the Park River 12's black who won the league championship. Fedje was played outstanding baseball all day long. Fedje finished the tournament going 7x7 at the plate. Everett scored 3 runs, added a triple and had 5 RBI's. Fedje was also flawless in the field holding down the short- stop position for his team. Everett faced one batter in the championship game and smack him out on 3 pitches. "Everett is a great athlete and an even better young marl," said head coach , Jesse Iryine. "He!y develop.ed into a top.notCh player. He has re- ally been hitting the ball hard over the last couple weeks and we are blessed to have him on this team." Everett is the son of David and Jodi Fedje of Hoople.
