Beneda attends the ND Leadership Seminar BISMARCK, N.D. -- John Beneda repre- sented Fordville-Lankin High School at the North Dakota Leadership Seminar May 30th-June 1st, 2013 at the University of Mary in Bismar- ck, ND. Beneda was selected because of his demonstrated service and leadership abilities in school as well as continued involvement in his community. The North Dakota Leadership Seminar brought together over 100 of the most talented and leadership-driven youth from across our state to join together for an extraordinary weekend fo- cused on leadership development and commu- nity service. Students who attend leave the sem- inar as leaders eager to go back to their Schools and communities and truly make a difference. Beneda was selected because of his demonstrat- ed service and leadership abilities in school as well as continued involvement in his community. " "The North Dakota Leadership Seminar strives to provide a comprehensive leadership ex- perience with area business, education and gov- ernment leaders which will set students up to suc- ceed in all areas of their lives," said seminar chair Sara Litton. The North Dakota Leadership Seminar is com- pletely volunteer lead, and encourages each stu- dent leader to go back into their community and provide 100 hours of service throughout the year. The North Dakota Leadership Seminar, es- tablished in 1981, is a non-profit organization ded- icated to inspiring leadership skills and a spirit ofvolunteerism in the state's young people. Every high school in the state is eligible to select a stu- dent to attend the seminar free of charge. Or- ganized by volunteers, the seminar is financial- ly supported by donations from businesses, service organizations, individuals, and founda- tions from across the state. National FFA Organization scholarship awarded to Park River FFA student INDIANAPOLIS -- The Na- tional FFA Organization has award- ed a $1,000 Archer Daniels Midland Company scholarship to Justin Zahradka of Park River HS FFA. Justin plans to use the funds to pursue a degree at North Dakota State University (ND). ADM sponsored 80 scholar- ships through a special project of the National FFA Foundation and is pro- viding a $250 grant to the Park Riv- er HS FFA to assist in its continued educational excellence. This scholarship is one of 1,726 awarded through the National FFA scholarship program this year. Cur- rently, 127 sponsors contribute more than $2.1 million to support the program, which for 29 years has awarded funds to deserving students through the National FFA Founda- tion. Funds are secured by the foun- dation from industry, corporations and individuals to reward and en- courage excellence and enable FFA members to pursue their educa- tional goals. Scholarship recipients were se- lected from 6,116 applicants from throughout the U.S. Selections were based on the applicant's academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural experiences that students accomplish and future goals. The National FFA Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Nation- al FFA Organization, which provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 557,318 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,498 local FFA chapters through- out the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Sobolik of Pisek accepted to JC JAMESTOWN, ND- Heather Sobolik of Pisek has been accepted to Jamestown College beginning in the fall of 2013. She is the daugh- ter of Craig and Sherri Sobolik. Sobolik graduated this spring from Park River High School where she was active in choir and band. She plans to major in radiologic technology at Jamestown College and participate in choir. The College has awarded her a Trustee Scholar- ship, Journey Award and Fine Arts Award. Established in 1883, Jamestown College is a private, liberal arts four- year college granting bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bach- elor of science nursingdegrees as well as master's degrees in educa- tion.
