rake the Windy City by storm
PARK RIVER, N.D.
-- On May 30 at 5:30 in
the evening, 70 mem-
bers of Park River High
School Choir along with
12 chaperones, loaded
two buses and departed
for Chicago, the "windy
city". After traveling all
night, the choir arrived
at the Illinois Veterans'
Home in Manteno, Illi-
nois. As Sheldon Weltz,
choir director men-
tioned, "The kids, along
with everyone else on
the buses, were pretty
bleary-eyed. But once
we moved into our first
song, the excitement of
performing for a whole
new, appreciative audi-
ence chased away the
tired eyes quite
quickly."
After the perform-
ance, the choir went into
the city for almost three
full days of education,
sight-seeing, bonding
and just plain fun. Al-
though a light rain fell
most of the day, every-
one enjoyed the Mu-
seum of Science and In-
dustry, Chinatown, and
exploring the Navy Pier
before heading to the
hotel for a much needed

good night's sleep.
Friday and Saturday
continued with seeing
and touring many of
Chicago's famous land-
marks: Adler Planetar-
ium, shopping on the
Magnificent Mile, the
Gangster Tour, Shedd
Aquarium and Ocea-
narium, Lincoln Park
Zoo, Hard Rock Caf6,
and going to the top of
Willis Tower, formerly
Sears Tower, for spec-
tacular views of the
Chicago skyline and
Lake Michigan. Stu-
dents were thrilled by
the observation deck ap-
proximately 105 floors
to the top of the tower.
In recent years, they
have built four "step
out" sections of the ob-
servation deck. These
areas are built entirely
of Plexiglas, including
the floor. Many creative
pictures were taken in
this area where you can
look down between
your shoes, hundreds of
feet to the ground be-
low! Saturday evening
ended with a stop in
