JULY 2, 2014 THE PRESS PAGE 7 California Wheat Farmer Installed as US[V Chairman, Crystal, ND native takes position as 00Vlce Chairman OMAHA, Nebraska - Roy Molter, wheat farmer from Braw- ley, CA, took the reins as Chair- man of the U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) Board of Directors at the organization's annual meeting on June 11, 2014, in Omaha, NE. "Attending USW meetings and conferences in Latin America, South Asia and Europe, I am con- tinually impressed by the quality of the USW staff and their work," Molter said. "I am honored to continue representing all U.S. wheat farmers overseas, sharing the message that we grow the most reliable supply of high qual- ity wheat in the world." Molter is a managing partner of Spruce Farms, LLC, a diverse operation in California's Imperi- al Valley that includes Desert Du- rum, lettuce, onions, sugar beets, alfalfa hay, and sudan grass. He is currently serving as chairman of the Califomia Wheat Commis- sion and has been a member since 1998 and has served as president and vice president of the Stock- man's Club of Imperial Valley. USW officers were elected to these one-year positions at the January 2014 Winter Wheat Conference. USW's next Board meeting will be held jointly with NAWG in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM, Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, 2014. USW is the industry's market development organization working in more than 100 countries. Its mission is to "develop, maintain and expand international markets to enhance the profitability of U.S. wheat producers." The ac- tivities of USW are made possible by producer checkoff dollars man- aged by 19 state wheat commis- sions and through cost-share fund- ing provided by USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. While serving her next two years as Vice President, Bemtson will be the liaison with the com- missioned composers and will work with the President. This will prepare her to serve as President in 2016-2018. Berntson said, "I am excited and honored to serve the piano teachers and organization that have done so much for me." CRP extension signup underway FARGO, N.D. -- Conservation Reserve Program participants with general signup contracts that are scheduled to expire on September 30, 2014 may be able to extend all or part of their contract acreage for an additional year at the same pay- ment rate as the existing contract. North Dakota Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Aaron Krauter encourages produc- ers to contact their local FSA office to get more information about the extension. "There is no general signup scheduled for the 2014 fis- cal year, so producers that want to keep those acres in CRP are en- couraged to look at extending their contracts," Krauter said. The signup period for the 1- year extension ends August 8, 2014. Contracts with lengths that will exceed a total of fifteen years, as well as contracts enrolled in a con- tinuous signup practice, are ineli- gible for the extension.
