'9) New iin ]Extension New agent-ln-tralnlng takes on Walsh County By Allison Olimb of The Press PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Unlike some students fresh out" of college wondering where to go next, Walsh County exten- sion's newest Agent-in-Training, Saman- tha Lahman, had her pick ofj0bs. When she graduated from University of Minnesota, Crookston, this spring, she applied for NDSU Extension positions in Emmons, Sargent, and Walsh counties. The day after she accepted the agent-in- training job in Walsh County, she was of- fered the agent job in Sargem County. It was the difference between being asked to get her feet wet and jumping right in. She surprised everyone with her deci- sion to stay. Lahman graduated with a major in an- imal science and minors in ag business and communications. During her college years, she did three internships in Min- nesota Extension -- two focused on 4-H and one in horticulture. She knows she has more to learn in the ag department, but she also knows that has an excellent teacher here in Walsh County. So far, she said, Extension Agent Brad Brummond has been taking her around the county and showing her the ropes. Above: Samantha Lahman has joined the staff at Walsh County Extension.
