Twenty-three 4- H youth participated in the contest representing six different Walsh County 4-H clubs. Receiving-honors in the Interpretive Reading Humorous teen dl; i- sion Eva Sobak (Fairdale) was awarded Grand Champion for her read- ing of The Pequod Meets the Rose-bud. Reserve Champion honors went to Toby Zikmund (Pisek),for Yertle the .Turtler Honorable Mention was presented to Seth Nelson (Grafton) for INeed My Monster. In the pre-teen division, Grand Champion went to Lilly Bina (Lankin) with The True Story of the Three Little Pigs; and Reserve Champion was Grace Burrell (Crystal) with a selection from The Fellowship of the Ring. Honorable Mention honors went to Greta Schuster (Grafton) with The Elves and the Shoemaker and Andrew Myrdal (Edinburg) for Big Nate in a Class by Himself. In the Interpretive Reading Humorous pre-teen team division brother and sister duo Killian and Grace Burrell received Grand Champion hon- ors for their rendition of Green Eggs and Ham. In the Interpretive Reading Serious teen division, Eva Sobak (Fairdale) was awarded Grand Champion for her excerpt from Until I Say Goodbye. Kaitlyn Nelson (Grafton) received Reserve Champion for her selection from Out of the Dust. Beatrice Kjelland (Park River) was awarded Honorable M;ntion for her poem Daddy's Day. In the preteen division Marit Ellingson (Dahlen) received Grand Champion for her selection from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Killian Burrell received Reserve Champion for his serious selection froin Columbus. In the Prepared Speech teen division, Emily Laaveg (Park River) re- ceived Grand Champion for her Bilingual Education persuasive speech and Emily Zikmund (Pisek) was awarded Reserve Champion tbr her speech entitled The Barbie Doll. In other divisions Grand Champion honors were awarded to the teen commercial duo of Becky and Rachel Klose (Hoople) in Commercial for their creative and practical product Blue Ribbon Magic. Hannah Myrdal (Edinburg) and Greta Burrell (Crystal) were recog- nized for their recitations as Cloverbuds. Cloverbuds members are part of a non-competitive introduction to the 4-H club experience for children ages 5-7. All three Cloverbud members were first time participants in the 4-H Communication Arts event and did an excellent job in front of an au- dience. All of these 4-H members are eligible to represent Walsh County at the district 4-H Communication Arts event on June 9th in Cavalier. Serving as judges for the event were Fern Magenau, Hamilton, Kat- rina Hodny, Grafton, and Becky Ratchenski, Cavalier. The Walsh Winners 4-H Club helped host the event. Special thanks to Becky and Kaitlyn Nelson and Emily Zikmund for their work in reg- istration, as room monitors, capturing the events on camera and helping with set up and tear down responsibilities.
