PAGE 14 THE PRESS MAY 25, 2011 ADAMS MF.MORIAL DAY PROGRAM QI[JALLY-DVORAK POST 237 SUNDAY, MAY 29 At 10:30 a.m., the Adams American Legion and Auxiliary will be having their All-Faiths Memorial Day Program at the Adams Lutheran Church. The keynote speaker will be State Senator Joe Miller. This program. will also be honoring World War II Veterans - Laddie M. Bata, Lester Jasmer, and Delvin Owen. There will also be readings from a diary of Glenn Hagen, a former resident of Adams, who was killed in a prisoner of war camp in Germany two days before World War II ended. Glenn's brother, Ron Hagen, lives in Park River. Pastor Warren Wenzel will take part in the program. There will be musical selections including a piano duet by Mary Bylin and Courtney Drevecky of America the Beautiful. The Auxiliary will present Poppy Poster awards. The Adams American Legion Auxiliary will be serving dinner following the service. The featured speaker will be Walsh County Veterans Service Officer Katrina Hodny. Katrina was born in 1984 to Mary and Jerry Hodny Jr. of Lankin. She graduated valedictorian of Fordville- Lankin High School in 2002, and earned degrees in criminal justices from Bismarck State College in 2009. She joined the Army in 2006; attended Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and combat medic training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Katrina earned her EMT- Basic certification in Texas. Due to injuries sustained in Texas, Katrina was given a medical discharge in 2007 and moved back to Walsh County. She became the full- time Walsh County Service Officer on Feb. 1,2011. Following the program, Paul Farup Post 147 will have a brief Memorial service at the following cemeteries: Memorial Park and Calvary Cemeteries, Park River; Kensington Cemetery, four miles east of Park River; Memorial Park Garden, Homme Dam; Golden Valley Cemetery, six miles west of Park River; and German Lutheran Cemetery, four miles west and three miles north of Park River. A military service will follow at the church cemetery and the post will then leave for services at the Conway and Veseleyville cemeteries. An honor roll of our deceased veterans will be read at each service. The post will return to Pisek for a memorial service at the Veterans Memorial north of the Legion building. An honor roll of our deceased veterans buried throughout the country will be read followed by a ceremony to retire the old flags and raise new ones. All those in attendance following the services are invited to gather for lunch provided by the Legion Auxiliary.
