Answers
I. The Four Tops, in 1964.
Many others have covered
the song, including Johnny
Rivers with a slower version
in 1967, and the duo of Mar-
vin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
in 1969.
2. Crystal Gayle, in 1977.
It ahnost didn't happen, as
the song's composer was
in the middle of a deal with
another artist.
3. Elton John, in 1980.
"Conquer the Sun" was on
the b-side. Oddly enough,
one version of the sleeve for
the single spells the title as
"'Little Jeanie."
4. Prince, in 1988. It
was the first Prince single
released as a CD
5. "Leader of the Pack,"
by the Shangri-Las in 1964.
The song required 63 takes,
as none of the music was
written down. According
to legend, to add the open-
ing sound, a motorcycle was
driven into the building.
