Pembina County Dispatch sent the City of Cavalier Fire Depart- ment and Cavalier Ambulance, the City of Mountain Fire De- partment, and the Walhalla Fire Department to combat the fire. As those agencies were fighting the fire in Akra, another call for service came in at approximately 11:40 a.m. for a grass fire in the ditch on ND Hwy 5, approxi- mately 1 mile, east of the City of Hamilton. The City of Cavalier Fire De- partment departed the Akra fire to respond to the fire east of Hamil- ton. After the City of Cavalier Fire Department departed, the Cavalier Air Force Station Fire Depart- ment was dispatched to assist ill the City of Akra. Within approximately nine min- utes, the Hamilton fire spread east, approximately nine miles to MM203 overpass on I29. Multiple agencies responded to the Joliette area (exit 203) to help combat the fire. Some structures and farm residents were being threatened by the fire, but no damages have been reported. The fire departments from the Cities of Cavalier, Neche, Bath- gate, Pembina, Drayton, Crystal, Saint Thomas, Halleck and Kennedy MN, and Emerson Cana- da, responded to help combat the massive grass fire in the Joliette area. As the day progressed, anoth- er grass fire started north and south of the City of Drayton. One at MM 196 and on the Pembi- na/Walsh County line on 1-29.
