Harry?... Ben Thompson (blue) and Andrew Hylden stood out in their tuxes right out of the movie "Dumb & Dumber" at the Park River Area's annual prom held last Saturday night. Photo: Larry Biri By Allison Olimb of The Press PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Kiri Kaste of Park River has been skating since she was two and on April 24-27 she will be skat- ing as one of 20 girls selected from North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Mon- tana to play on the Northern Plains girls' hockey team in the Minnesota National Invitational Tournament Showcase. The daughter of Lon Kaste and Connie Kaste, Kiri started young with figure skating les- sons and boys hockey in Park River. Lon said when Kiri was younger, "We'd fall asleep watching hockey. She liked it. She always did." She found her place on the ice. Lon said they let her pick whether she wanted to go on and continue with figure skat- ing or continue with hockey. "She picked hockey," he said. Eventually when she got as she wasn't ready to put her far as she could with the boys hockey days behind her. In jun- ior high she ended up playing with the Devils Lake varsity team but without a driver's li- tense that commitment became a challenge and only lasted for Kaste Go, nt, lpag, e EDINBURG, N.D. -- Twelve high school students from Valley-Edinburg High School competed in the North Dakota State Science FairApril 3-4 at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Sever- al students were recognized for their efforts and two became eligible to attend the Interna- tional Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May as altemates. Morgan Ellingson, daugh- ter of Jared and Jessica Elling- son, of Edinburg will be at- tending the INTEL Interna, tional Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May as First Alternate, Northeast Re- gion. Morgan's project was "Effects of Curcuminoids on HPV (positive and negative) Cervical Cancer Cells". Additional awards includ- ed: UND School or Medicine and Health Sciences - $100 monetary award and certificate for project related to medical or health sciences; Society for In Vitro Biology Award - certifi- cate for project in the area of tis- sue culture. Shelby Cyr, daughter of Gwendlyn Daninger, Hoople, and Richard Cyr, Hopkinton, Mass., was named Second Al- ternate; Northeast Region. Her project was "The Effects of Soluble vs. Fibrillar Abeta Pep- tide on Polyamine Synthesis in Neural Tissue - Relevance to Alzheimer's Disease". She also is eligible to attend the In- ternational Science and Engi- neering Fair.
