PAGE 12 THE PRESS NRCH 26, 2014 Aggl e Articles News and Notes from Park River Area School By Jana Gudmundson PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Last week facul- ty and students at Park River Area Elemen- tary School celebrated "Penguin Games" and kicked off the final "positive pusher" activ- e V called "The Great Teacher Campout". ' Over thepast two months students all read the story "Mr. Popper's Penguins" by Richard and Florence Atwater. To celebrate the big read, We conducted the Penguin Games. Stu- dents Participated in games that required them to scoot across the floor to catch fish, jump over icebergs, fish for the best catch, pin the beak on the penguin and throw snowballs. Mary Martin reported to me after the games "I have to say the Popper's Penguin celebra- tion was a huge success! The kids loved it!" The Great Teacher Campout comes to a cli- max in May. The objective of the event is for students to earn as many positive acknowl- edgements from staff for following school wide expectations as possible. Students will continue to earn Pony Pride stickers but staff may also acknowledge meeting expectations with a marshmallow. Students place the marshmallow in the jar located in the ele- mentary office. Once the marshmallows reach the line on the jar, another teacher will be drawn for the campout in May. The teachers have slwn some great excitement for this event. Vplan to have arrangements made for a Park River Area Elementary potluck din- ner the sae evening as the campout. We'd love to see families support the staff as they keepa good attitude about camping out. More devils will be provided when they are available.
