Page 8 THE WALSH COUNTY PRESS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2017 By Kevin Skavhaug Game day, Snow day, .Sick day'?... None of the above. I took a Song day Tuesday. It wasn't a game day or, thank goodness, a snow day, or even the traditional "fill out your NCAA pool bracket" day. No, it was a bonafide song day. But it was work related in,a,way. Tuesday was Large Group:ii,:nq Sie day in Mayville. It didn't take me long to commit to driving a bus when l heard what it was. Music' competition days ibr-me are absolutely awesome. Throughout the day I sat in on a few other schools choirs and bands to rate, unofficially, how they com- pared to us. Actually, ! was- n't there to rate. I was there just to listen because no matter how small or big the school, how large or small the choir, the result I get is always the same. Amazed. When the Park River Area choir came into the performance center it was impressive. Sixty or so kids, all in black on black out- fits.., they looked actually intimidating. Sort of like a football team all dressed up in their buffpads, everything tucked in neat as a pin, with their painted off eye black staring down. their oppo- ;nent from:th-e:402yard line. We did look.sharp. From all the othe7 schd61s"l saw, we were undoubtedly, in my opinion,,the classiest, most professional looking choir in the bunch andthejudge for our group daentioned as much. So did we blow the doors off? Of course we did. It was almost a jump up and ovate kind of performance, but I'm not quite at that point of my music spitting to go that far. But I did sort of feel like a "super fan" as I ljsteneff to the various groups, I thought I could get used to being a super fan. Both Park River groups (large choir and large band) received highest ratings. All in all, a very good song day for our kids. And me.
