FOR THE TROOPS -Walsh County Veterans Service Office Veteran "s Property Tax relief As I was looking through many of the benefits that are available to our veterans I came across a state ben- efit that I think is a really good one. The state of North Dakota has a property tax benefit that will allow veterans with Service Connected Disabilities to receive tax relief based off the rate of their disabili- ty. The guidelines are as follows: A disabled veteran of the United States armed forces with an armed forces seryice-connected disability of 50% or greater, who was dis- charged under honorable condi- tions or who has been retired from the armed forces of the United States, or the un-remarried surviv- mg spouse if the disabled veteran is deceased, is eligible for a credit ap- plied against the In'st one hundred twenty thousand dollars of true and full valuation of the fixtures, buildings, and improvements of the person's homestead equal to the percentage of the disabled veteran's disability compensation rating for service-connected disabilities as certified by the department of vet- erans affairs for the purpose of ap- plying for a property tax exemption. Exemption should be at highest percentage veteran is compensated. If veteran is compensated higher than combined rating the exemption should be at the higher rate. Ex- ample: if combined rating is be- tween 50 and 90 but the veteran is compensated at 100% due to Indi- vidual Un-employability. The Vet- eran's exemption should be at 100%. If you have any question about this benefit please feel free to con- tact my office at 701-352-5030 or Stop by for a visit at 638 Cooper Av- enue Suite 5 Grafton, ND 58237. Otherwise you can call the county tax equalization office at 701-352- 1077. Thank you for your service. Countless volunteer hours have gone into putting a little love and care back into this nearly century old show hall. The March 16 fundraiser at the Park River American Legion will fea- ture a free-will offering baked potato bar with toppings options of stroganoff, chili, and standbys -- sour cream, butter, cheese, bacon bits -- served with coffee, water and lemonade. They will be serving from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Legion bar also will be open that day beginning at noon. A portion of the proceeds from beverages sold will be donated to the Lyric Theatre. A variety of items have been gathered for the silent auction. Movie posters from the theater also will be for sale -- from Twilight trilogy fa- vorites to newer films that never made it to the Park River screen before the theater's temporary closing. In addition to the auction and free-will spud bar, the TLC committee will be selling raffle tickets for $10 apiece with chances to win $500 Cenex gift card or two chances to win a $250 card. The of the raffle winner will be drawn on May 1. Over the past year, TLC's major fundraising effort has been a letter cam- paign, which brought in nearly half of the $100,000 needed to complete renovations and purchase the new digital projection technology needed to keep the theater going for years to come. Seasonal load restrictions to go into effect soon m ND : BISNCK, N'.D: 'With rt/loadlimit/loadlimitinfo.asp. warmer weather ahead, the N0rth The proposed 2014 refition Dakota Department: xf :Trans, :: portation (NDDOT) reminds truckers that seasonal load re- strictions may be placed on North Dakota state highways soon. ND- DOT normally places load re- strictions on some state high- ways from March to May, de- pending on weather. Restrictions are rifted when roadbeds have sta- bilized enough to carry normal traffic. Truckers should consider mov- ing their heavy loads before load restrictions are placed on North Dakota state highways this spring. Current seasonal load restric- tion information is available on the Intemet and by dialing 511. There is a Load Restriction Email update feature that one can subscribe to on, http://www.dot.nd.gov/road .l"J'lap is located on the Intetnet, along with current restriction, Order 2013-18 that has some load restrictions in place. These maps can be viewed at http ://www.dot.nd.gov/travel- info/. To view the proposed Load Re- striction Map, select Load Re- strictions (Proposed) box. To view Order 2013 - 18, select Load Restrictions (Current) box.
