Page 2 THE WALSH COUNTY PRESS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2018 Star ey Stanley S. No- vak, age 97 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, March 3,2018 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Stanley S. Novak was born August 3, 1920 in Meford Township of Walsh County, ND the son of the late John and Anna (Cicha) Nb- vak. He attended schools .in Meford Township. Following his education he farmed with his fa- ther. Stanley married Evelyn Knaus. The couple lived and farmed near Park River. Stanley later moved into Park River. He worked for Burbidge Seed Farm, Cenex, and Duncan Meagher. He later mowed lawns for several people in the Park River area. He retired in 1982. Stanley moved to the Good Samaritan Center in November of 2015. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Park River. Stanley is survived by his chil- dren: Veronica (Dave) Anderson, Park River, ND; Chris Novak, Warsaw, ND; Francie (Jerry) Lin- neman, Reynolds, ND and Darrel S. Novak N o v a k , Jamestown, ND; five grandchildren: Larry (Jacqueline) Novak, Sara No- Yak, Tyrone (Rachel) Denault, Toni Linneman and Melissa Denault Shaf and eleven great grandchil- dren. He was the last surviving member of his im- mediate family. He was preceded. in death by his parents, daughter, B irbara Denault, brother, John Novak and sisters: Rose Midthun, Florence Hagen, Ann Lindell, Emma Nelson and granddaughter, Mandy Novak. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Ceme- tery in Park River in the spring. Froiland, age 88 of Park Riv- er, ND, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Edith J. Froiland was born June 11, 1929 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Jens Albert and Laura (Vander- waal) Froiland. She attended South Vesta Township Country School and graduated from Walsh County Agricultural School. She then attendedAaker's Business School in Grand Forks. In May of 1949 she started work- ing in the offices of the North Dakota State Mill and Elevator. She retired from the ND State Mill and Elevator in 1998. Edith moved to Park River in 2003 and lived with her sister Frances Kjel- land until Frances' death. Edith continued to live in rural Park River and she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 2013. She was a member of the Unit- ed Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, the Business and Professional Women and Sons of Norway. She was very close to her family and would visit them often. She en- joyed traveling, attending con- certs and musicals, doing embroi- Frofland dery, and sewing. Edith is survived b.y her nephews and niece: Gary Se- boe, Park River, ND; Alan Seboe, Park River, ND; Keith (Cherie) Kjelland, Drayton, ND; Orville (Sh- eryl) Kjelland, Park River, ND; Mar- lene (Richard) Quanrud, Waconia, MN and James (Marlys) Kjel- land, Park River, ND. Several great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviv- ing member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Irene Seboe, Frances Kjelland and brother, John Froiland. Funeral services will be Thurs- day, March 8, 2018 at 10:30A.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Nelson Mavis E. Nelson, age 82 of Park Riv- er, ND passed away op Saturday, Febru- ary 24, 2018 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Mavis Elaine Horpestad was born July 10, 1935 onthe family farm near Hampden, ND the daughter of the late Joakim and Emma (Ramsey) Horpestad. She attended rural schools near Hampden and graduated from Hampden High School in 1954. She worked at the Lawrence Wilkes Farms and Sales Barn in Langdon and Park River. Mavis was united in marriage to Roger Nelson on December 20, 1957 in Velva, North Dakota. The couple lived in Adams "until 1962 when they moved into Park River. Mavis worked as a bookkeeper for the Sales Barn, Ohnstad Oil Com- pany, the Soil Conservation Office, and the Park River Park Board, re- tiring in 2015. She was a member of Our Sav- iour's Lutheran Church and WEL- CA, the Martha's circle and the St. Ansgar's Hospital Auxiliary. Mavis is survived by her hus- band, Roger of Edmore, ND; her daughter: Melaine (Lyle) Korynta, Glyndon, MN; three granddaugh- ters: Amanda Ko- rynta, (Cody As- perheim), Katlin (Brady) Timme and Lauren Korynta (Michael Enfield), her mother-in-law, Lyla Nelson, Park River, ND; three sisters: Esther Dalai, Seattle, WA; Gladys Martinson, Devils Lake, ND; Marion (Dennis) Hoffart, Grand Forks, ND. Sever- al nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four broth- ers. Funeral services were held Fri- day, March 2, 2018 at 10:30A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River, ND. Visitation was Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 5- 7 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND in the spring. Ardys was bom June 22, 1922 in ru- ral Park River to P. Arthur and Anetta (Stenerson) Lindell. She was the fourth of six children. She graduated from Ed- inburg High School in 1940 and went to Deaconess Registered Nurs- ing program, graduating on June 21, 1943. In October 1943, she married James A. Melby in Cnaffon and they had three children. She worked as an RN at St. Joseph's Hospital in Grafton until 1964. James Melby died in 1968. She married Almer B. Olson in 1972 and worked at the Bagley hos- pital and was the Director of Nurs- hag at the Fosston nursing home and lived in rural Gonvick, MN. Almer passed away in 1983. She continued to live on the farm after Alrner died, moving into Clearbrook in 1989. In summer 1996, her high school sweetheart, Leonard Man&, con- tacted her and they were married in Oaldey, CAin late 1996, where they lived until 2006. Leonard passed away in 2006 and Ardys moved to Fargo in 2007. She moved to Bethany on 42nd in 2015, and to Sheyenne Crossings after a fall in December. Ardys delighted in seeing pic- tures of family on Facebook and en- Mandt joyed all the people she met each place she lived. She was Gramma to many. She is dearly missed. Ardys is sur- vived by: her three children, Arlys (Darryl) Sander, La- rim0re, ND and Mesa, AZ, Gale (Bob) Kirkeby, West Fargo, ND, and John Melby, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren- Lynda (Richard) Risan, Blake Sander, Katrina Kirke- by and Tyson Kirkeby; great-grand- daughters Alexa (Ryan) Grubb, Samantha Risan and Michelle Risan. She is also survived by an aunt, Ann Stenerson, VA, and two brothers, George Lindell, Edin- burg, ND, and Alfred (MaryAnn) Lindell, Fairdale, ND and numerous nieces and nephews and their fam- ilies; Step children: Steve Olson, Tei'ry Olson, Richard Olson; Richard (Sue) Mandt, Leona (Mike) Capistrant, and Roger (Debbie) Mandt, and numerous step grand- children and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, .brother Clayton Wallace (Wally) Lindell, sisters Adeline Windingland and Dorothy Kluge, and sisters in law, Ann Lindell and Vicky Lindell. A Celebration of Life service will be held this summer in Gmflon, ND.
