Inspired by a Tom Brokaw interHew on the Oprah show, this project is a way to say "Thank You" to those who have given so much. To qualify for a vacation, the smwice member or veteran must: Have served in Operation lraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, or Operation New Dawn. Have been Combat Injured at a minimum of 30%. Copies of Award Letter and DD Form 214 or current PCS orders are required with application. Frequently Asked Questions: Will the facility be wheelchair accessible? The permanent facility will be wheelchair accessible, with wide doorways and an accessible toilet and shower. If the temporary vacation units have limitations, they will be disclosed at the time applications are received. Are pets allowed? We have a strict "no pet" policy, with the exception of a registered assistive animal. Is there a medical facility in Custer? There is a hospital in Custer along with dental and chiropractic care. Rapid City has a Regional Medical Center and is located 40 miles from Custer. There are VA hospitals in Hot Springs (32 miles from Custer) and Sturgis (70 miles from Custer). What will this vacation cost? The lodging will be at no cost. Several local restaurants and attractions are offering free meals and admissions for the families. The restaurants and attractions are listed on the website. Other expenses, such as transportation, will be the family's responsibility. Is there an airport in Custer? There is a Regional Airport in Custer lbr public use. For more information see their website at There is a Regional Airport in Rapid City with daily commercial flights. What other housing is available in the area for other family members who might want to visit? Custer has many motels in the area and some have offered discounts to families of the guests of Operation Black Hills Cabin. 1 Artists may enter up to 2 pieces in any media that can be applied to a ,12 x 12 canvas. The Variety Show is meeting March 3 at the Walsh beingheldApri122attheCityHall County Extension Office. Vice President Jette Peterka called the meeting to order. Pledges were recited and the sec- retary and treasurers reports were read and approved. Congratulations were given to those who participated in project expo and to those who are going on to the state fair. A w)te was taken on whether or not we should help fund the land judging team going to the national competition in May. It was decided that we should and we are in charge of doing a skit. Practice times were discussed for preparing our skit. Our next meeting will be held on March 25 at the Pembina Gorge. We are scheduled to go snowshoeing if the weather per- mits. Anderson graduates basic training SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Air National Gum'd Ainnm Alex J. Ander- son graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physi- cal fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Aimaen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an as- sociate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Anderson is the brother of Andrew Anderson of State Street, Grand Forks. He is a 2010 graduate of Park River High School. Evan's duties include assisting with the installation and maintenance of the computer network and related equipment for Polar's information service needs.
