Randy and Diana Hahn, pictured with Vern Houser, Commander of the Park River Legion, were awarded a plaque from the Park River Legionnaires for their dedication and dona- tions to the Legion Memo- rial Cemetery Marker Project. The Hahn's, along with other Legion volun- teers, have been placing American Flags at the cemeteries for Memorial Day for many years. They began to notice each year how more and more flag holder/Legion memorial markers went missing. "We wanted to see every veteran have a marker," said Diana Hahn, who along with her husband, Randy, operates Jim's Super Valu in Park River. They set out to assist the Legion in fundraising money to purchase about 170 markers for the Calvary and Memorial Park Ceme- teries in Park River. During one of Jim's Super Valu's produce sales, the Legion served food that was do- nated by the store and all the proceeds went to the project. Planning began in June 2009. They have held three fundraisers so far and are sure they have enough markers to finish the two big cemeteries in town, but will make sure the outlying cemeteries with Park River veterans are also covered. The markers purchased are designed to lay fiat on the ground next to the head- stone. t, ,'0 I % ,,.
