PAGE 12 THE PRESS FEBRUARY 19, 2014 l News and Notes from Park River Public School By Jana Gudmundson PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Dancing with the Teachers was a success! Over the past month teachers at Park River Area School have gone the extra mile to praise ours students for fol- lowing school expecta- tions. On any given day, students are acknowledged with Pony Pride stickers for meeting expectation. During the Dancing with the Teachers contest, they were also acknowledged with Pony Bead. Receiv- ing a Pony Bead meant a vote for a favorite dance contestant. Seven teachers (Mrs. Patti Kouba, Mrs. Sherry Curry, Mr. Brett Omdahl, Peppi Robideaux, Mr. Kevin Skavhaug, Miss Sarah Kastner and Mrs. Jana Gudmundson) agreed to participate and receive votes, but only the top four would need to dance. It was obvious by viewing the walls around school who the students favored. The top four dance con- testants were announced on Thursday, Mrs. Kouba, Mr. Omdahl, Peppi and Mrs. Curry. Our school theme this year emphasized good sportsmanship, "Attitude is Everything." The four teachers set a wonderful example of being good sports during the exciting event. It wasn't easy to co- ordinate practices or stand in front of so many kids and perform. Turned out it was close competition for the travel- ing mirror ball trophy. The judges (Mr. Kirk Ham, Mrs. Marcia Rost, Mrs. Jo- lene Grove) had to take their time contemplating their scores and they fac- tored in the student cheers and shouts of excitement for their favorite dancer. Mrs. Curry's and com- pany score 29.9 Peppi and Lion crowd score 29 Mrs. Kouba's Dino Dance 28 Mr. Omdahl's Solo PERFECT SCORE 30 The crowd favorite and winner was Mr. Omdahl!
