Lorraine Johnson Lorraine Johnson, 93. of rural Audubon, died Monday, January 23, 20t2 at the Good Samaritan Society in Park River, North Dakota. Lorraine Christine Swanson was born on August 1, 1918. the only child of Die C. and Georgia (Romberg) Swanson in Audubon, Minnesota. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1935. She attended Moorhead State Teachers' College for three years and earned her teaching certificate there. She taught at schools in Lancaster and Rural Audubon, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Dennis Johnson on October 3, 1950. Lorraine and Dennis spent their years farming and raising their family, enjoying the blessings of home and hearth, as well as neighbors in church and community. Dennis passed away July 2, 2010. Surviving Lorraine are two daughters, Sheryl (Orville) Kjelland of Park River and Rebecca (Wes) Aardahl of Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Johnson of Spring Valley, MN, and Evelyn (Chester Anderson) Johnson of Detroit Lakes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers- in-law Donald Johnson, Lowell Johnson, Gene Squires, Virgil Thorson, Bill Jorgensen, and sisters-in-law Darlene Squires, Audrey Thorson, and Loretta Jorgensen. Visitation was held Sunday January 29 at the West Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a israyer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Audubon, MN. Ser- wces were held on January 7, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with military honors. Father Scott Medlock was the of- ficiant. Randall was born on November 8, 1949 in Grafton, North Dakota to Marvin and Evelyn Platen of Park River. Randy attended WCAS in Park River and took flight training in Greeley, Colo. Randy served in the Vietnam War between 1969 and 1971. He received his BS in Aviation Administration from the University of North Dakota. He also received his Flight Instruc- tor, ATP, and other specialized ratings for various aircraft. He moved to Alaska in 1983. One of Randy's passions was flying, and he was employed as a pilot for over 30 years. He flew crop dusters in North Dakota, hauled mail and passengers in bush Alaska, flew tourists out of Puerto Rico, dropped smoke jumpers and fire- fighting equip- ment for BLM and most recently flew Lear Jet medivacs both in and out of Alaska. Randy loved to work on computers, walk- ing his dogs, and enjoyed designing and working on various projects from remodeling his home to de- signing and building artistic cre- ations. Family states that Randy was, "A lover of animals, a voracious reader, and an enthusiastic con- versationalist. Randy's kindness and generosity to friends and neighbors will be missed." Randy is survived by his wife Caren Platen; mother Evelyn Platen; daughter Shiloh McDo- nough; son Blake Lund; broth- ers Larry, Doug, and Don Platen; sister March Harki; along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
