Are you an unremarried surviving spouse of a disabled Veteran that was rated at least 50% at the time of death? Are you an unremarried surviving spouse receiving Dependency and Indem- nity Compensation (DIC) from the VA? If you answered yes to any of these questions and pay property taxes, you may qualify for a Disabled Veterans Property Tax Credit from your local tax assessor's office. There is an application that is available online at the North Dakota's Tax portal ( or you can request one be mailed out to you through my office by calling 352-5030. The application must be filed with the county tax assessor by Febru- ary 1 of the first year for which the credit is claimed. A person shall fur- nish to the assessor any information which is believed will support the claim for credit for any subsequent year. A qualifying disabled veteran who-acquires the homestead during the year may apply for credit for the portion of the year during which the veteran owns the homestead. If claiming the credit for the first time, you will need to provide a copy of the Veterans DD214 (discharge document) along with proof of the dis- ability rating.
