PARK RWeR Park River High School will be hosting its second annual Poetry Out Loud Competition, a national recitation contest sponsored by the North Dakota Council Of the Arts. Poetry Out Loud provides an opportunity for students to learn about great poetry through performance. This program has allowed our school to acknowledge the ever-growing importance and relevance of the liberal arts. Last year's winner, Molly Sobolik, succeeded to the state level and thoroughly enjoyed her experience. The school- wide winner for 2012 will go on to compete in Bismarck in March. This year's competition will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 P.M. in the Park River High School elementary gym. We invite you all to attend and share this great experience with us! cn. This prompted me to come up with some recipes for such items. Gingered Carrots Cook, peel, and slice length wise 8 carrots Blend: 2 Tbsp. sugar * 3/4 cup water * 1 1/2 tsp. ginger * 2 Tbsp. butter * 1/4 cup light corn syrup Cook sauce until thickened. Pour over hot carrots. Lyonnais Carrots For every cup of hot sliced carrots sautd in butter 1/4 cup of sliced onions until lightly browned. Add carrots to onions and saut6 together until carrots are nicely browned. Salt and pepper to taste. Allow 1/2 cup carrots for each serving. Baked Carrots Wash and scrape carrots and cut into strips. Place in casserole or baking dish, add a little water and sprinkle with salt and pepper and bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes, covered. Leave carrots uncovered if you wish them browned. Allow 2 carrots per serving. Creamed Cauliflower 1 medium cauliflower-cut up Clean and cooked in boiling salt and water for 25 to 30 minutes. In the mean time make 1 cup of Medium White Sauce with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of melted cheese. Pour this hot sauce over cooked and drained cauliflower. Serve at once.
