About Sunshine Memorial Foundation The Sunshine Memorial Foun- dation is a North Dakota non-profit that was established by Van and Dee Larson in memory and in hon- or of their daughter, Shannon "Sunshine" Larson, who passed away in 2007, at the age of 31, from heat stroke while she was hiking in Arizona. By Nancy Larson The school year is moving along quickly with the beginning of the second semester well un- derway. Before we know it the students will be signing up for classes they want to be in for the 2014-2015 school year as they continue with their high school ed- ucation. A program that is used in the Family and Consumer Sci- ences (FACS) Choices class and introduced to my 8th grade class is RUReadyND.com. This is an exploratory program for students to complete various surveys re- garding their interest, skills, apti- tudes and values. The additional features in this program include: creating learning plans to match the strengths and interest of each students; match education and employment opportunities with in- terests and skills; has test prepa- ration information for ACT col- lege entrance exam; explores pro- grams and major North Dakota colleges and universities; has great information regarding re- sumes, cover letters and practice for job interview information. The part I find valuable about this program is it shows the high school classes that will be need- ed for a specific field of study. It allows the student to plan ahead when setting up their schedule 9th through 12th grade. This pro- gram can be accessed by stu- dents, parents and educators. Go to RUReadyND.com and sign in with a user name and password. It will store information so that you can access it in the future. Let the planning begin! Editor's Note: Larson teache FA CS at Park River A rea Schools.
