Marion Ilene Chally was born in Adams, North Dakota on April 1, 1930, the daughter of never gave up. Marion is survived by her son Rick Groven of Kadoka; her brother Leslie (Eldora) Chally of Adams, ND; her seven grandchildren; Jana Kuchenbecker-Kenzy (Chris) of Rapid City, Jarod (Becki) Groven of Hill City, Crystal (Jim) Wiese of Hill City, Leslie Stuart A. Smith, age 69 of Grafton, ND entered into the loving hands of his Heavenly Father very unexpectedly on S0turday, December 26, 2009. Stuart A. Smith was born April 6, 1940 in Grafion, ND the son of the late Gordon and Dorothy (Frasier) Smith. /'continued as Stuart Ugsuenor. s is- survived by his wif-:Ma Ellen of GraftoiND his daugh- ters: (Loren) Zaalney, Pflrk River, "; J6 ason, Grand F0i'ks, ND; six grandchil- dren: Brady, Sarah, Jenna, Adam, Nathan, Hannah; his siblings: Ralph Louis H. and Stella (QuaUy) Chally. She grew up on the farm in Adams and graduated from Adams High School in 1948. She then went on to Walsh County Ag School in Park River, ND. Marion had two children, Gloria and Richard with Marvin J. Groven. The family moved to Philip in 1952 where she was a bookkeeper for 46 years at the Farmers Union Oil Co. She enjoyed her work but most of all being with her family and friends. She had a love for horses that remained strong her whole life. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren, and her summer trips to North Dakota. Marion was an active member of her church, First Lutheran Church of Philip. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society since 1957, and a member of the Haakon County Farmers Union from 1953-1963. She was a three time cancer survivor with a will that Larsen (Chace) of Hill City, Jami Reed (Matt) of Rapid City, Garret Kuchenbecker, and Carmen Bickford (John) of Boise, ID; as well as seven great grandchildren. She will be reunited in heaven with her loving parents; her beloved daughter Gloria (LeRoy) Kuchenbecker; her sister Euniee (Elmer) Iverson; and her brother Vernon (Lorraine) Chally. Funeral services were held Friday, January 8, at the First Lutheran Church in Philip. She will be buried at the Trinity Cemetery in Edinburg, North Dakota, along side her parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. A memorial is established. Following his edu- cation, Stuart started driving trucks for various trucking companies in the area. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Puppe on February 23, 1963 in Crystal, ND. The couple has made their home i Grafton for the last 40 years. For the last several years, Stuart has owned and operated Smith Trucking in Grafton. Stuart enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of spoiling his six grandchildren. He was meticulous about his lawn and spent hours mowing and caring for his yard. He enjoyed looking at trucks and vintage cars. Stuart was continually thinking of and helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Jean Siewert. Memorial services were Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the River of Life Community Church of Grafton. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the River of Life Community Church. Memorial donations can be made to River of Life Commtmity Church Correction -- The headline for the Cavalier/Valley-Edinburg game during the Holiday Tournament in the January 5 issues of the Walsh County Press on page 7 was incorrect.
