Walsh County Secondhand Smoke Poster C00.00test winners recognized
GRAFTON, ND -- The Walsh
County Health District is pleased to an-
nounce the wilmers of the 6th Annual
Secondhand Smoke Poster Contest. Sixth
graders from Walsh County schools were
once again asked to help educate their
schools and the public on the dangers of
secondhand smoke.
This contest has one grand prize win-
ner for all participating 6th graders trot]]
Walsh County. This year, out" grand prize
winner was Marts Miller from Park River
School. In addition each school also has
a first prize winner. This year's first prize
winners include: Haylee Linstad (Adams-
Edmore Public School), Sydney Beneda
(Fordville-Lankin School), Alaina Droog
(Grafton Public School), Morgan Hovde
(Minto Public School), and Gracyn Cole
(Park River Public School).
These posters help educate adults to
never smoke around children, especially
in homes or vehicles whether or not chil-
dren are present at the time. According to
the American Lung Association children
who breathe in secondhand smoke have
more ear infections and are more likely to
develop pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma,
and other lung diseases. In addition, chil-
dren who have asthma and breathe sec-
ondhand smoke have more asthma
attacks.
The Walsh County Health District
would like to congratulate each of these
poster contest winners as well as thank all
the 6th graders who participated in the
contest. There were many wonderful and
educational posters displayed in the hall-
ways of these Walsh County schools
